Understanding the Structure of 3PE Anti-Corrosion Steel Pipe

Tourist volume:146Time:2026-07-31

In the realm of pipeline protection, 3PE anti-corrosion steel pipe has emerged as a widely recognized and effective solution for safeguarding steel pipes against corrosion. This innovative coating system comprises a three-layer structure that combines the best properties of different materials for optimal performance. Let’s explore the composition and advantages of this superior anti-corrosion solution.

The Three-Layer Structure

The 3PE anti-corrosion system consists of three critical layers:

1. First Layer: Epoxy Powder (FBE > 100μm)

The innermost layer is a high-performance epoxy powder coating, which provides a robust initial barrier against corrosion. This layer is crucial as it directly contacts the steel surface, preventing corrosive agents from penetrating the pipe.

2. Second Layer: Adhesive (AD) (170-250μm)

The middle layer features a specially formulated adhesive that incorporates functional groups for bonding. This adhesive binds the epoxy powder to the outer polyethylene layer, ensuring excellent adhesion while enhancing the overall structural integrity of the coating.

3. Third Layer: Polyethylene (PE) (1.8-3.7mm)

The outermost layer is made of high-density polyethylene. This thick layer further protects the steel from external environmental factors, providing a tough and resistant shield against physical damage, moisture, and chemicals.

Through specialized processing techniques, these three materials are seamlessly integrated, resulting in a superior anti-corrosion coating. The manufacturing methods predominantly employed are either winding or circular mold wrapping, which ensure that the layers bond securely and uniformly around the steel pipe.

The 3PE anti-corrosion steel pipe coating is a product that has successfully fused the European 2PE coating technology with the epoxy powder coatings widely used across North America. It is takes full advantage of the high impermeability of epoxy resins combined with the mechanical strength of polyethylene materials. To date, it is recognized worldwide as one of the most effective pipeline anti-corrosion coatings available, making it suitable for a wide array of engineering applications.
